After sharing my homemade bounty protein bar recipe, it was inevitable that my homemade snickers version would be next.
Im a little surprised that it has taken me so long to share this no bake snickers recipe! Snickers is the answer to my sweet and salty palate, as evidenced by the sneaky ways Ive incorporated in various foods.
Ever since I started working out and exercising more, Ive ensured to focus on my protein intake. For the longest time, I would resort to store bought protein bars. As predicted, this quickly added up. I soon realized I could make my own!
I first started by using my homemade protein bar recipe before becoming fancy and making a 3 ingredient homemade Paleo version. Since then, Ive gotten way more creative and lets be real- They have become my edible motivation AND replacing a boring protein smoothie or protein shake!
The original snickers chocolate candy bar is made up of a thick, chewy nougat, a thick caramel, a thin layer of crushed peanuts and covered in chocolate.

I snuck one into the cinema the other day. Since Im on my diet and I cant eat anything there, I ate these Snickers protein bar instead.

The Peanut Chocolate Layer
To top these snickers protein bars off, I pressed some dry-roasted peanuts into the caramel layer and melted some dairy-free dark chocolate on top. So good! Tastes every bit as good as a Snickers, though admittedly not identical.

Since theres no condensed milk for the caramel in this recipe, these Snickers bars can easily be made Vegan with the right ingredients.

How Much Protein Should We Consume
Before I take a look at the protein within the Snickers and Mars chocolate snack bars, its first important to know how much protein you should be consuming daily.
The minimum recommended amount of protein you should consume per day is 0.36g per pound of body weight. So, you can work out the unique amount of protein you should be consuming daily.
However, for the average man, this is 56g per day and for the average woman, this is 46g per day.
Although, if you are someone that does any type of exercise, whether youre going for a run every morning or hitting the gym a few times a week, youre going to need more protein than someone who lives a sedentary lifestyle.
If you are exercising regularly, the reason that you will need more protein is that youll be tearing your muscle fibers apart which have to be repaired.
These fibers need protein to be repaired, and therefore, you are going to need more protein.
Some Alternate Ingredients For Healthy Snickers Bars
I made these healthy snickers bars with protein powder, peanut butter powder and monk fruit sweetened sugar free stevia syrup to make sugar free low calorie snickers without dates! Heres some healthy ingredient swaps you could try though
- Unflavored protein powder: Unflavored Collagen, or even Almond flour or Oat flour
- Cheerios Cereal: Use rice krispies, Chex or any other crunchy cereal
- Peanut Butter Powder: Use 4 Tbsp Creamy Peanut Butter, but also reduce the water to maybe 2 Tbsp.
- Sugar free Maple Syrup: Regular maple syrup or Honey, but they wont be Vegan or a no sugar recipe anymore.
- Sugar free chocolate: Regular chocolate
Snickers Finally Gets Into Supplements In The Us With A Protein Powder And Bar
For years, the UK and Europe have had authentic candy bar supplements from the candy company Mars, including Snickers and Mars protein powders and protein bars. Weve also seen a Bounty protein bar, a Milky Way protein bar, a Twix protein powder, and a Maltesers protein powder. Although Mars produces Snickers, the two bars have different nutritional values, and therefore its important to take a look at each so you can figure out if which one youll go for.
A Hi-Protein Mars contains 22g of protein, which is higher than its Snickers counterpart, and its actually higher than some popular protein bars and formulas out there too.
This is also a much higher amount of protein than in a traditional Mars bar normal bars contain 2.2g of protein.
However, its slightly more calorific, totaling 231 calories per bar. Its also higher in carbohydrates too, with 25.7g .
Although, it does have a lower amount of fat, with 5.3g of fat per bar.
