He advises people to schedule a workout on a Saturday or Sunday. “Having a couple of rest days in the week is a better idea than leaving it for the weekend,” he said.
And he doesn’t advocate “cheat days.” “All youre doing by having a day off from your regular diet is reminding your taste buds of all the bad foods theyve missed,” he said. “Wait until youve reached your goal, then slowly introduce the odd treat.”
He added that it takes about 21 days of healthy eating to overcome your junk food habits.

What Is Protein Powder Good For And When To Use It
Protein is a macronutrient that helps to reduce your hunger hormone levels, as well as helping to repair muscle and promote muscle strength.
Impact Whey Protein, from £12.99, Myprotein
Introducing a protein powder to support your daily diet can seriously help to amp up your muscle gain, and accelerate fat loss. The NHS recommends 0.75g of protein per kilogram of body weight a day but, several recent studies suggest that if you’re highly active, you need far more protein in your diet to see results. This is where protein powder comes in, in the form of pre or post-workout smoothies, protein baked goods and tasty protein-rich recipes. Think of it as your rocket fuel for a healthy, active lifestyle.
Personal trainer Tom Opper, founder of Top Fitness explains: “This amount should be scaled up dependent on your current calorie intake and levels of body fat – as a general rule of thumb, if you are in a calorie deficit youll require more protein to maintain or build muscle mass, and this is amplified dependent on how lean you currently are. Essentially, the less body fat someone has, and the less they eat, the more protein theyll need to maintain and build muscle.” Noted!

Whey protein powder is great for high-intensity workouts and kickstarting muscle growth and repair, but it’s not vegan-friendly as it’s made from animal product. If you’re vegan, you’ll want to look out for a plant-based alternative like pea protein instead. These are the most commonly used proteins, and who they are best for:

Whats The Best Food To Eat After A Workout
Food & Recipes
Friends! Its 10:05pm and Ive got my blue-blocker sunglasses on again while blogging. This whole challenge of posting a blog every day is really forcing me to work when Id normally be sleeping or watching Revenge.
Today Im sharing something Ive been thinking about for awhile. The other day when I was at Barrys Bootcamp, I noticed something. They make protein shakes that you pre-order before class, and they have them all lined up after class for everyone to drink right away so nobody has to wait for their post-workout nutrition to hit their veins.
It got me thinking.
Whats the best food to eat after working out? Does it actually make a difference? Does timing matter?
I decided to consult 3 people who I look up to in the fitness world they are rockstar status fitness gurus!!! Heres what they had to say.
Heres a simplified guide to work from if your goal is fat loss, general health or lean muscle maintenance:
- If your workout consists of intervals, sprints, HIIT, circuit training, weight training or endurance training for over 45 minutes: eat or drink a snack thats at a ratio of 2:1 carbs to protein within 2 hours of ending your workout. You can just time meals for after workouts so that youre not adding too many calories into your diet. I find that right before breakfast is a great time to work out!
Day Barrys Bootcamp Nyc Diary
I get really enthusiastic about boutique fitness. I feel so good after classes, and never work myself hard enough in the gym. I bought a week of Barrys Bootcamp classes the night before I flew to New York their Silver Weekly Membership means 8 classes in seven days. If you have ever tried Barrys Bootcamp you will be aware that that isnt easy particularly when you havent done it for a while.
Kelly Brook took me to the original Barrys Bootcamp in West Hollywood for the first time in February 2004. I loved it. Barry himself used to teach us. Now it is a global fitness phenomenon its probably very hard to get into one of Barrys own classes. He called us The Parsons Twins and we went every weekday at 7am. Sometimes I used to drive to her house and drag her out of bed, I loved it so much. I remember the buzz of after exercise I rarely focus on the fact that the class is hard as hell.
Barry yelled and shouted, if anyone was slacking from the incline and speed he required he would be over at your treadmill adjusting it himself. If you were late for class he would make you run the stairs outside. Sometimes we would run from the treadmill to the bathroom to catch a breath for a moment- this was also unacceptable and could result in punishment. It was hilarious.
Here is my Barrys Bootcamp diary.

I Tried It: Barrys Bootcamp
Barrys Bootcamp has been on my fitness to-do list for ages, but its taken me a while to gee myself up to try it out. Any workout that combines treadmill sprints and strength training is always going to be tough. Add in bootcamp and well, you can understand why I was nervous when I rocked up to the London Central branch yesterday morning.
Reader, it was f*cking hard. Two circuits of 15 minutes on the treadmill and 15 minutes of strength training nearly wiped me out for the day. The beginners treadmill speed is 6 mph , which is much faster than I run, EVER. You then go up by 1 or 2 points throughout the sprints. If the instructor is being nice, you might change it up and let you go up by 0.5 mile intervals. The fastest I ran was 8.5 mph and I thought my legs were going to come up from under me.
Real talk: since giving birth, my pelvic floor isnt what it used to be, so I had to contend with that, as well as holding back the urge to vomit, during and after the sprints. Note to self: wear black running trousers next time!
The music was absolutely amazing, with lots of uptempo house and hip hop to keep energy levels up. Our instructor for the session was Faisal and he was super motivational, continuously trying to push all of us to our limits and reminding us that its supposed be hard. And of course the class is going to be hard thats what you pay £20 for. And thats how you get results.
Have you tried Barrys yet? What do you think?
