Foods that cut calories or certain ingredients like sugar or fat may be compensating for it in ways that are also detrimental to health, like artificial sweeteners.
Yeo said we should consider the full context of what we eat, instead of focusing too much on cutting calories as an end goal.

What Foods Contain Protein
Protein is a macronutrient made up of varying combinations of amino acids and can be found in nearly all types of food.
There are actually hundreds of thousands of different types of protein, which are made up of amino acids. Luckily only those containing the 9 essential amino acids are vital for us to eat!
Proteins are considered high quality when they provide us with the amino acids each of us need to function every day.
When a food item contains all of the essential amino acids we need, its called a complete protein. Complete proteins are found in meat or animal products like eggs and dairy.
When two different foods combined meet all of our essential amino acid needs, theyre called complementary proteins.
While the most common source of protein in the diet is from meat, fish, and animal based products like milk, eggs, and dairy, protein can also be found in plants and grains.
How Much Protein Do I Need
Most people need to get between 10 and 35% of their calories from protein, depending on their age, sex, size, activity level and other factors, says author and registered dietitian Libby Mills, MS, RD, LDN, a national spokesperson for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
Its not really one size fits all, but eating about .8 grams per kilogram is a good start for most healthy individuals with minimal physical activity, which equals about three palm-sized servings of lean protein per day, says Erin Coates, RD, a registered dietitian with the Cleveland Clinic, referring to the current Recommended Daily Allowance for protein.
Now, if youre a bodybuilder or an athlete, you may need a little more protein. Coates estimates that the protein goal might be up to two grams per kilogram for athletes.
If youre worried youre not eating enough protein, you can certainly check with your doctor or a registered dietitian, but thats probably not an issue.
The general perception is that we need more protein than we really do, notes Wesley McWhorter, DrPH, MS, RDN, LD, CSCS, a chef and assistant professor for health promotion and behavioral sciences and director of Culinary Nutrition for the Nourish Program at the UTHealth School of Public Health.
If you tend to eat protein from animal sources, its less likely to be an issue than if you dont, unless youre very diligent about incorporating those plant-based sources of protein into your diet.

How Sprouting Decreases Antinutrients
Sprouted grains also have lower numbers of antinutrients.
While phytic acid has some antioxidant benefits, when present in higher amounts it can bind minerals such as zinc, calcium, magnesium, and iron and prevent them from being absorbed. Sprouting modestly reduces phytic acid content .
