Tip #: What You Need To Know About Macronutrients

Beginning strength athletes often ask me whether or not they should use nutritional supplements to achieve their sporting goals.

So let me start with what we as bodybuilders need every day.

Food that we ingest every day consists of a mix of nutritional components.

Macronutrients are nutrients that occur in large amounts:

Macronutrients are divided into three groups:

  • fats
  • Carbohydrates
  • Protein

The human body needs these groups of nutrients in relatively large quantities in order to survive.

To ensure that we develop muscle mass with a minimum of fat, it is important that we maintain the correct macronutrient ratios.

My preference is for a calorie distribution of 40% carbohydrates, 30% proteins, and 30% fats.

This is the total distribution of the day, but of course, not all meals during the day need to meet these proportions.

Creating the perfect vegan protein powder combo thats 100% natural, with no artificial sweeteners or excess fats was a challenge. Most plant-based protein powder sources are naturally high in fat and tend to be costly, but I thought it would be fun to experiment with since Ive tried just about every single vegan protein powder blend on the market. Seriously, all of them. If youre not able to get your hands on the pre-made options Ive mentioned before, here, here and here, then check out my recipe below. It can easily be modified to have a specific flavor, if you so desire. As is its very neutral and mixes beautifully into any smoothie. You cant go wrong with adding cacao or carob for a custom made peanut butter and chocolate flavor!

Now I wouldnt recommend this as an option to mix with water and take on the go. This is definitely geared towards those that make smoothies and want a simple combination of ingredients to further add to the nutritional value of their drink and make it more filling. This is perfect in a breakfast smoothie or blended up with a frozen banana as a post-workout snack. You can even use it as a base to make some deliciously awesome no-bake protein bites.

Is Too Much Protein Bad

Protein is essential for our bodies, but overeating can be counterproductive. It does not only help in repairing tissues, but also in strengthening our immunity. The amount of you need differs from other people based on your body, mage, activities, and fitness. Children, women, and men all require different amounts. The best source of this food group for you should contain all the essential nutrients.

The drawback of overindulging in excess is that you get little of other foods. This means that you limit the intake of carbs, healthy fats, and vitamins. You need other foods such as fruits to fight diseases, and vegetables to aid in digestion. Homemade powder is ideal because you can mix it with other ingredients, and you dont have to substitute it for your meals.

Peanut Butter Protein Bars

Have you ever had the munchies, opened your pantry to peruse the options, then realized every item on the shelves is either in a shiny wrapper or cardboard box? Thats been me for the last two months. No more! Im taking back my breakfasts and snacks with these Peanut Butter Protein Bars.

Made with oatmeal, protein powder, honey, and some chocolate for happy measure, these healthy oatmeal protein bars are no bake, and the only equipment youll need is a bowl and a spoon.

With the all-out crazy of the last few months , Ive been relying on more store-bought snacks than usual. While they certainly have their place, Ive missed my homemade healthy snacks.

One of the shiny wrapper foods Ive been relying on the most these past few months is protein bars.

Yes, a store-bought bar will do in a pinch, and I appreciate the larger selection of healthy, high-protein options that are on the market now, but nothing feels or tastes as wonderful as making your own wholesome snacks from scratch.

I love knowing exactly what is in these homemade chocolate peanut butter protein bars.

Plus, just like these no bake Protein Balls, the ingredients are simple and nourishing, and the cost-per-bar is a fraction of the ones at the store.

Also, SO YUMMY. The texture of these bars is soft and chewy, and they taste like a thick, bakery-style peanut butter cookie.

How to make your own protein shake

Its very ironic that Im sharing a recipe for how to make your own protein powder.

I have always been very anti-protein powder, I just felt like it wasnt really necessary. I knew I was getting a lot of protein from fruits and veggies , nuts, seeds, legumes, grains, superfoods and so on.

But something changed last week.

If youre part of our , you know about the cleanse Peter and I just finished , part of the cleanse was more protein throughout the day and 15 grams of protein within 2-3 hours of waking up! If youve read this post about our breakfast philosophy, you know we dont roll that way.

However, I kept an open mind and decided to give it a try.

For 8 days Peter and I had protein powder 3 times a day! We dont recommend that, but long story short we went through A LOT of protein powder!

Which got us thinkingMan, wouldnt it be great if there was a cleaner , less nasty tasting protein powder?

Then Peter chimes in We should make our own!

Hemp And Heart Health

by Raindrops2000in Why Hemp ProteinTags: hemp farm, hemp natural resource, hemp oil, hemp outer shell, hemp products., hemp protein, hulled hemp seeds, protein powder, things hemp, vitamins and minerals

I was speaking to a close friend the other day who mentioned that Hemp Protein was separated and thats how come it can have a higher content of protein in the powder then the actual seeds. I told him I was going to research this as I, being the one to sell hemp, believed they just crushed up the whole seed to make the protein powder. O.K. I admit, I was hugely wrong!! I did research and found out not only does protein powder contain more protein then the actual Hulled Hemp Seeds, I found out how it was made and wanted to share it with you.

How do you feel or what do you do when your totally wrong about a disagreement you just had with a friend?

I asked the manufacturers personally, those that make the hemp products that I sell, whats the difference between hemp seeds and the powder and how is hemp powder made. Their the once who make it all happen out at their hemp farm so figured they should know. Thats right! People have to actually grow, harvest and then produce a product that is useful for all sorts of things, not to mention a product thats really healthy for you, on a farm before it can be manufactured.

This is what I found out

* The whole seed is harvested from the crop

* The two parts now need to be sifted so that the outer shell and the seed are separated.
