Make Vanilla Protein Powder Mixed With Water Actually Taste Decent

What is your favorite bottled juice? Fill a 12 ounce glass with two to four ounces of it, then fill the rest with water, leaving enough room at the top to add a scoop of the whey powder and vigorously mix it .

Trust me on this: The juice will thoroughly neutralize that awful taste that comes with mixing the protein powder only with water!

I do not know how this would taste if the juice were freshly prepared with a juicer.

I use bottled, no-sugar-added, organic juice because its been pasteurized, and thus can sit in the gym locker for a few hours without getting spoiled.

There are many no-sugar-added, organic, all-natural bottled juices on the market: carrot, kale, pomegranate, black cherry, beet, grape, cranberry, you name it.

I use mainly pomegranate, but have also used cranberry and grape.

Ive found that just two ounces, plus six ounces of water, will neutralize the awful taste of the vanilla protein.

The irony is that I find pomegranate juice, taken straight, to taste just horrible. Absolutely horrible.

Yet when this is mixed with water and vanilla whey, the juice and the powder cancel each other out!

The resulting taste is of a bland though highly tolerable hybrid of something a little fruity and something a little like whey vanilla.

I use pomegranate for its heart healthy benefits, and cranberry, black cherry or grape when the store is out of pomegranate.

Usually, though, I add a little of another type of juice to the pomegranate.

      Pass On The Chocolate Powder

Thats right ladies and gentlemen, when buying your first tub or bag of protein powder, resist the temptation to buy chocolate.

Here are the two main reasons why:

    • Im not sure why, but the several brands Ive tried DO NOT taste like real chocolatelike, at all.
    • It limits the other ingredients that you can mix into your protein shake. Pineapple and chocolate, anyone?
    • So, apart from not tasting very good, you cant mix the chocolate powder with many other ingredients outside of milk and maybe peanut butter . I prefer to buy vanilla protein powder, and then I can add in chocolate if I want to using syrup, cocoa powder, or chocolate almond milk.

I said I wouldnt share recipes, but I will share my favorite go-to. My favorite protein smoothie recipe is Vanilla Muscle Tech powder, frozen strawberries, half a banana, some pineapple, and unsweetened almond milk. You just cant have that tropical blend using chocolate powder.

If you want to make your protein shakes taste better, go with vanilla.

      Dont Be Afraid To Experiment

How to make protein shake taste better

This tip is simple yet so many people find one recipe they like, wear it out, and stop drinking smoothies altogether. Be sure to try different ingredients and different amounts of your ingredients. For example, flip your banana-to-strawberry or strawberry-to-pineapple ratios. A simple change like that can greatly change the flavor of your smoothie. You can also look up countless recipes online.

I once tried a coffee-based smoothie , which didnt go well, but Ive also tried things like squeezing some lemon in my strawberry/banana smoothie. It added a whole new flavor without being overbearing. I also like flavored yogurt in my smoothie from time to time.

I also once used chocolate almond milk and peanut butter for a super sweet protein shake, but Im confident that recipe was not healthy.

If you want to get a little fancier in the kitchen, consider this: Most protein powders indicate that 2 scoops equal 1 serving. Then, the container instructs you to mix that with only 8-10 ounces of liquid. Does that proportion seem a little off to anyone else? No wonder protein powder tastes so gritty!
