The Final Oat Milk Vs Almond Milk Verdict

Does Milk Contain Protein?

In general, both Caspero andJones agree that there isn’t a huge difference when it comes to the nutrition of oat milk vs almond milk. Still, taking your individual needs and overall diet into consideration could help you decide which one’s best for you. “If you’re concerned about calories, you are likely going to want to choose an unsweetened almond milk over, perhaps, a full-fat oat milk,” says Caspero. “Oatly’s Oatmilk is 120 calories, compared to Almond Breeze’s Unsweetened Almondmilk’s 30 calories . If you’re someone who’s drinking a few cups a day, that can add up.”

Oat milk is also rich in carbohydrates packing 16 grams per cup that can raise blood sugar, so it might not be the best option if you’re trying to keep your glucose levels stable, says Jones. But for those who are pregnant or nursing and need those extra macronutrients, the higher-fat, higher-protein oat milk may be a better fit, adds Caspero. Still, confused about whether you should opt for oat milk vs almond milk? “Always consult a registered dietitian if you do have questions about how to choose the best milk substitute for you because it definitely makes a difference based on your health condition, the cost, and what you’re using the milk substitute for,” explains Jones.

Does Almond Milk Cause Kidney Stones

Oat, macadamia, rice, and soy milk compare favorably in terms of kidney stone risk factors with dairy milk, whereas almond and cashew milk have more potential stone risk factors. Coconut milk may be a favorable dairy substitute for patients with chronic kidney disease based on low potassium, sodium, and oxalate.

Lactose Intolerance Vs Cows Milk Protein Allergy

A lactose intolerance or sensitivity results when the body cannot break down lactose, the sugar in milk. In contrast, a cows milk protein allergy is a reaction by the immune system to a protein found in milk.

If your child has a sensitivity to lactose, low-lactose milk such as goats milk may be a good alternative and provide a very similar nutrient composition as dairy products. However, if your child has a true milk protein allergy, goats milk will likely be of no benefit to your child.

Which Foods Have Carrageenan

Carrageenan tends to be in vegan and vegetarian products. Since its a plant, manufacturers use it to replace gelatin, which is made from animal parts.

Carrageenan has no nutritional value, so you dont have to worry about missing anything when you remove foods containing it. Finding replacements for vegetarian or vegan foods without carrageenan is possible. Just remember that carrageenan-free milks may separate. This is natural. All you have to do is shake well before pouring.

To see which brands are carrageenan-free, take a look at Cornucopias shopping guide. Carrageenan is also found in pet foods, especially canned ones. Choose a brand that does not contain this additive.

Other Factors To Consider

Cows milk is a whole food that only contains milk. Although some varieties of milk contain added vitamins and minerals, cows milk does not contain additional ingredients in the form of additives or preservatives. On the contrary, almond milk is a form of minimally processed food given almonds do not grow in liquid format, require production, and almond milk contains additives in the form of preservatives, emulsifiers, and stabilizers. Although homemade almond milk is made by soaking and blending almonds with water and then straining the mixture to remove the solids until only the liquid remains, store-bought almond milk often contains additives such as gellan gum, sunflower lecithin, locust bean gum, ascorbic acid, and/or natural flavour.

Cows milk is one of the most nutrient-dense foods on the planet. Not only does it contain a good balance of carbohydrates, protein, and fat, but also a good source of naturally occurring vitamins and minerals. Conversely, given almond milks primary ingredient is water, it contains a very limited amount of all macronutrients, and most of the micronutrients in almond milk are fortified.

    2. They have moral qualms with the dairy industry

    3. They choose almond milk because it is lower in calories

Effects Of Calcium On Antibiotics And Other Medications

Probably one of the classic fooddrug interactions is that of calcium and its impact on drug absorption . Calcium supplements and calcium-rich foods such as dairy products, soy milk, almond milk, and tofu, and even milk added to tea or coffee may significantly reduce the absorption of several antibiotics including tetracycline, minocycline, doxycycline, levofloxacin, and ciprofloxacin . A reduction in the absorption of antibiotics will reduce the therapeutic effects of these drugs and may lead to more serious or recurring infections owing to subtherapeutic concentrations of the drugs in the blood. To improve their absorption, these medications should be taken at least 1 h before or 2 h after calcium, magnesium, and iron supplements or dairy products.
